About our Wines

Looking for something Unique? Perhaps something no one else has? You've come to the right place. Home of One of a kind Wines from the Premiere Napa Valley, we are the proud owners of 18 Unique Napa Valley Auction Wines.

We are also proud to represent a number of Boutique Wineries who have a small production and bring them to you exclusively. Our Exclusive wines are not available at any other retailer on the Island or are usually sold available only at the Winery. Here is a listing of Wines that are Exclusive to HASR.

PREMIERE NAPA VALLEY AUCTION WINES:

A Midwinter Barrel Auction for the Trade has become one of the world's foremost commercial wine auctions.

The event, featuring one-of-a-kind wine lots, attracts a virtual who's who of the international hospitality and beverage trade to Napa Valley each February. The vintners of the Napa Valley go all out with these wines.

One day each year in February, more than 200 Napa Valley Vintners gather in at the Culinary Institute of America Greystone, to offer select members of the trade an opportunity to barrel taste and bid on unique, personal selections. These one-of-a-kind wines are not otherwise available. Only a few cases are made, and each creation is produced only once.

Nowhere else can you share in such an extraordinary experience and obtain such rare wines. This is where you can see what some of the world's greatest winemakers come up with when all bets are off. Each of these wines will be a one-of-a-kind blend, variety, appellation, or vineyard or barrel designation unique to the winery, or collaboration among two or more winemakers.

The wines are offered as 5-case, 10-case or 20-case lots at the discretion of the vintner. These futures are released to the winning bidder in 750ml or 1.5L bottles that are individually numbered and specially labeled.

HASR Wine Co. is proud to be owners of these fine one-of-a-kind lots.

SWANSON VINEYARDS M&M '02

Lot Description:
Swanson Vineyards has blended up THE MOST DELICIOUS, and absolutely edible wine to surface in the new millennium! The limited-edition Swanson M and M BLEND is a proprietary wine, based on Merlot infused with Malbec, 100 percent from our estate vineyards in Oakville. This special wine bursts with mocha, vanilla and blue fruit aromatics, with sweet, creamy flavors on the palate. Guaranteed to melt in your mouth, not in your glass!!!

SCHWEIGER "KRISTINA 3.0 Cabernet
Lot Description:
It is become our tradition to create the Kristina solera blend exclusively for Premiere Napa Valley. The Kristina blend showcases how the older vintages in their full maturity marry well with the younger more fruit forward wines; one can taste 10 years of vintage layers in this handcrafted exclusive. This lot is the last of the Kristina blends. Named after Winemaker Andy Schweiger's niece Kristina.

SEPS ESTATE CABERNET '03

Lot Description:
The magic of clones, blending and barrel yield this unusually focused and balanced wine from our estate grown organic grapes. Composed primarily of clone 6 Cabernet, 181 Merlot & 11% Petite Verdot, aged in French Oak barrels that were aged and coopered in N. Italy by Gamba, this special barrel best shows the qualities of our estate and Napa hillside grapes.

CUVAISON CABERNET SAUVIGNON/SYRAH '03

Lot Description:
For this year's offering we've gone Aussie! Starting with Cabernet Sauvignon from our Mt. Veeder Estate and blending in a judicious amount of our Estate Grown Syrah, this formidable blend should have both sides of your brain singing in harmony. Your rational side will appreciate the epic concentration inherent in mountain grown Cabernet, while your artistic bent will marvel at the asymmetric balance achieved when just the right amount of peppery Syrah kisses so much jammy, cassis-laden Cabernet.

CLOS PEGASE CABERNET '04

Lot Description:
Northeast of Calistoga, in the shadow of Mt. St. Helena, the 35-acre Palisades Vineyard is our most prized vineyard. The alluvial stone and gravel create a horizontal hillsideÂ’ meaning that the soils are very poor and infertile giving rise to paltry yields of small, densely-concentrated Cabernet berries which produce wines of striking intensity. The wines from Palisades are richly aromatic and expressive, wedded to dense tannins and a full, unctuous palate.

RAYMOND VINEYARD "BIG THREE" CABERNET '04

Lot Description:
This one-of-a-kind blend combines equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon from the premiere appellations of the Napa Valley: 33% Oakville, 33% St. Helena and 34% Rutherford. We have worked with the fruit from these regions for decades because of their superior quality, complexity and rich flavors. This unique 100% Cabernet Sauvignon blend highlights each appellationÂ’s best fruit characteristics. It is intense, balanced and structured with a smooth, velvety finish.

SEPS ESTATE CABERNET '04

Lot Description:
Site-specific agriculture has been a 30-year tradition for the Seps Family at Storybook Mountain. Rootstocks, clones, rigid selection, natural fermentations and the magic of barrel and wine interaction have yielded this special lot from our organically grown grapes. The wine is primarily mountainside Cabernet Sauvignon, with touches of Petit Verdot and Merlot.

Our Exclusive Wines:

PIÑA NAPA VALLEY: History

The Piña name (it means “fruit of the pine” in Spanish) is familiar as one of the most respected vineyard management companies in the Napa Valley---farming prestigious estates including Pahlmeyer,O’Shaughnessy, Cafaro, Dina (Cimarossa Vineyards), Emilio’s Terrace, O’Brien Family Winery, Gemstone, Howell At the Moon, Hughes, Johnson (Bisou), Kapcsandy, Roy Estate, Sawyer, Showket, Teaderman Family, Vogt Vineyards and Winston Hill (Frank Family Vineyards).

The family has been making its home in the Napa Valley since 1856 when their progenitor Bluford Stice led a wagon train into the valley from Missouri. The Piñas’ great-great-grandfather Bluford Stice’s son Lafayette was a farmer and winemaker, owning vineyards where Stice Lane is today, just south of St. Helena; he was a leader in the wine industry of Napa Valley at the turn of the twentieth century as the winemaker at Inglenook Winery.

We stumbled onto this Winery during one of our Wine Trips in 2002 and brought them into Hawaii and are proud to present  Pina Wines from their Inaugural release current releases as well as single vineyard cabernets.

Pina Howell Mountain Cabernet 2000
This is a big, luscious, meaty juicy cabernet that demonstrates another fabulous year on Howell Mountain. The Vineyard matures much later than the rest of Napa Valley, achieving a different texture to the maturity---very balanced with a big and elegant mouth feel. This wine absolutely smells of Cabernet, a very particular combination of chocolate, berries, tea and Howell Mountain spice in the nose. The wine has a long, elegant finish now with beautiful round nuances in the mid-palate.  As the wine matures, that long finish will develop and even lengthen. The wine has at least a decade to reach itÂ’s peak; it would suit flavorful dishes which can play off its elegance and vigor.
Only 350 cases produced.  Wine Spectator 90 pts. (Sold out at winery)

Pina Howell Mountain Cabernet 2001

'Tight, intense and concentrated, with a firm wall of tannins dominating a mix of floral wild berry, currant and cedary oak, with a drying aftertaste. Drink now through 2012.

Pina Howell Mountain Cabernet 2002

Aromatic cocoa, leather, herbs and dark fruit, full bodied, round on the palate, medium rich cocoa, tobacco, cherry, black, currant, mint, oak, medium long, lightly tannic finish. Will improve for 4 to 6 more years and hold for several thereafter.
450 cases produced. Wine Spectator 91 pts. (Sold out at Winery.)

Pina Howell Mountain Cabernet 2003

Aromas of briary black fruits, blueberries, black tea, sweet vanilla and dusty spice, following through to an intensely concentrated yet exquisitely balanced palate. Olabisi Wines
Olabisi is an African girls given name meaning "joy multiplied". It is also the name of a small Napa winery founded in 2002 by husband-wife team Kim Wedlake and Ted Osborne. Kim brought them to the Napa Valley 13 years ago--she to design wine labels and he to pursue winemaking. Possessing only his English degree and no formal training Ted set out to gain his winemaking knowledge as an apprentice first. From 1995 to 2002, Ted worked for Cakebread Cellars in Napa, Passing Clouds in Australia, Rupert & Rothschild in South Africa, Chateau du Seuil in Bordeaux, and Storybook Mountain Winery in Napa. By now it seemed time to focus that experience on their own wines. Since then, they've dedicated themselves to making small-production expressive wines from diamond-in-the-rough vineyards. Most recently, Ted was head winemaker for Pina Cellars and he still consults for Phifer Pavitt, Blue Hall Vineyard, and Trahan wines. Ted and Kim currently live in Calistoga with their two young children.

Winemaker Ted Osborne started in the wine business back in 1995 with a harvest job at Cakebread Cellars. “I worked like a dog and loved every minute of it,” says Ted of the experience. Having a ravenous appetite for winemaking knowledge and experience, Osborne began traveling around the world to work in other winemaking regions, gathering a body of knowledge and experience that would guide him in making his own wines. While maintaining his job at Cakebread, he worked harvests at Passing Clouds Winery in Australia and Rupert & Rothschild in South Africa. He then left Cakebread to make wine at Chateau du Seuil in Bordeaux, France. Returning from France in the winter of 2000, Osborne was brought on board at Storybook Mountain in Calistoga to help with their burgeoning Cabernet program. After two years at Storybook, Ted and his wife Kim began their Olabisi wine project. “Jerry Seps was nice enough to let us make our wines in the Storybook caves that first vintage,” says Ted. Once word got out of his success with the Olabisi wines, in 2004, the Piña brothers hired him to make their vineyard designate Napa Cabernet Sauvignons. Soon after taking on the Piña project, friends Suzanne and Shane Pavitt hired him to make their own special Cabernet project called Date Night. Osborne now consults on that project, Blue Hall Vineyard Cabernet, and for Trahan Winery, with whom he shares a tasting room in downtown Napa.

J Moss Wines
J. Moss Wines is a small family wine business established in 2000 by James Moss and Janet Moss. They are a small family owned wine
producer that creates high quality, hand crafted, small lots of Cabernet Sauvignon from the world renowned appellations of Napa Valley.

Hands-On Winemaking:
Along with their good friends, they are literally hands-on in every aspect of the wine production process. It is their continuing goal to create world class wines. The grapes are sourced from some of the best appellations of the Napa Valley where the climate is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape that requires a long maturation period to reach that perfect color and develop its lush fruity character. The quality and care that goes into J. Moss wine is evident in every glass.

Exceptional Vineyards:
J. Moss’ reputation for excellence starts in the vineyards. The wines are blends composed entirely of grapes from award winning appellations from Napa Valley where the climate is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition, they have a small vineyard at their property in Napa Valley. The grapes are delicately hand harvested and hand crafted for the best results possible.

J Moss Puerta Dorada Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon grapes came from the Puerta Dorada Vineyard in Rutherford, CA. The property is located near some world renowned properties like Frog’s Leap and Caymus Vineyards. This single vineyard 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced in the Bordeaux style with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is unfiltered and unforgettable.

Winemaking
The grapes were harvested in late October 2005 at 26 degree Brix. They were hand picked into ½ ton bins, gently destemmed, cold soaked for 48 hours and fermented in T’bins. The grapes were hand punched down twice a day until dry. The wine then went through extended maceration on the skins for 5 days for full extraction of flavors and color. The wine was pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation, racked off and put into 70% new French and American Oak and 30% one-year-old French and American Oak barrels for 22 months to ensure their complex flavors. Each barrel was hand racked four times before bottling in September of 2007.

Tasting notes:
Dark ripe fruit aromas of plum and red berry with a dash of cassis. tobacco and leather dominate this full-bodied Cabernet. Deep and dark, this remarkably complex Cabernet Sauvignon shows a dusty lengthy finish with great depth and elegance. With its firm, well-structured tannins it may be consumed now or cellared for future enjoyment.

Each barrel was hand racked three to four times before bottling in September 2007.

MIDSUMMER CELLARS
Midsummer Cellars is probably the smallest winery in Napa Valley. Owner and Winemaker Rollie Heitz is a familiar name in the Wine Indurstry.  He is the youngest son of Joe Heitz of the Heitz Cellars and is producing some killer wines.

MIDSUMMER CELLARS Fowler Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet 2005
We are very excited to introduce Fowler Vineyard Knights Valley Appellation Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine begins atop the western hills above Calistoga in the Mayacamas range at an elevation of 1000 feet above sea level. The wine exhibits classic characteristics of mountain grown fruit— deep garnet color, aromas of powerful dark berry fruit, with hints of butterscotch, vanilla and oak. Its big and powerful flavors and concentrated fruit are framed by the smooth, yet firm tannins.

The 2006 Fowler Vineyard was harvested at 25.8 brix on October 20, 2006 and aged for 20 months in 100% French oak barrels.
A total of only 323 cases were produced.

MIDSUMMER CELLARS Canon Creek Vineyard Cabernet 2005

WILLIAM COLE VINEYARDS
William Cole winery is a prime Napa property originally built in 1876 as the J.C. Weinberger Winery. It is the oldest standing stone winery in the Napa Valley. After Prohibition the top two stories of this ghost winery were converted into a residence, and in 2002 the cellar of the historic stone winery began its winemaking renaissance as William Cole Vineyards. Owner/3rd generation Napa winemaker Bill Ballentine only makes one wine - a 300 case production Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bill is a classic one man operation - he tends the vineyards, drops fruit, decides when to harvest, and makes the wine in its entirety. Bill knows a thing or two about Cabernet - he was St. Clement's winemaker in their "heyday" - blending their now legendary 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon (Wine Spectator Top 100) At the aforementioned Auction Napa Valley, William Cole's barrel received the 8th highest bid out of 107 wines. Not too shabby for a first time participant. One whiff will take you to Cabernet Heaven.

WILLIAM COLE CABERNET Cuvee Claire 2005
Shows a deep garnet color with brilliant ruby red highlights at the edges. A balanced and elegant 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 has hints of black cherry, sweet mocha and smoky oak. It has excellent longevity on the finish, with balanced tannins that embrace the complexity of the fruit, rewarding both those seeking a youthful Cabernet and those enjoying age and maturity. Drink 2008 to many years to come.

CARNEROS DELLA NOTTE WINERY
Founded in 2003, Carneros della Notte is a boutique winery owned and operated in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, California. The founding partners are Dave Harmon, Sal Godinez and Darin Applebury. The winery is dedicated to the production of ultra-premium pinot noir wines and now expanding to making Cabernets, Rieslings and Dessert Wines.

This new producer is created in partnership by three men of diverse backgrounds and is producing ultra-premium pinot noir wines from three different clones and three different rootstocks. The grapes are harvested by hand and exclusively at night while the juice chemistry is more stable. The winery’s name reflects this practice and translates to "Carneros of the Night". The premier releases are the Los Carneros Pinot Noir, a 100% Pinot Noir from the Carneros region of Napa and Sonoma Valleys and the Napa Valley DIII Vineyard Pinot Noir, which is produced with grapes grown exclusively from David Harmon's Carneros-Napa Valley vineyard.

Carneros della Notte’s founders are Dave Harmon, a former founder of wine.com and past chauffeur to Robert Mondavi and Winemaker Sal Godinez who has been a vintner in the Carneros area for more than twenty years and Darin Applebury, a United Airlines pilot.
