HASR WINE TASTING & EVENTS
TUESDAY JANUARY 31, 2012 ~ 5PM TO 7PM
"A Taste of Italy" Hey gang! Please join Sky Cameron of Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants as he pours some of our staff's favorite Italian wines. Here's what we will be featuring, Kris Pinot Grigio 2010 Winemaker Franz Haas Kris Pinot Grigio has been one of our best selling wines since we've opened the store! It displays enticing aromas and flavors of flowers, citrus, tangerine, and hints of apricots and almonds. Kris is lean and refreshing on the palate with crisp acidity. Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2009 "5 Stars" -Decanter Magazine "One of Tuscany's finest wines." The wines of Paolo di Marchi, proprietor of Isole e Olena, are some of the most exciting in Tuscany. Di Marchi embraces pristine, careful viticulture, and he shoots for full ripeness in his Sangiovese, the classic grape of Tuscany. Paolo took over his family's estate when he was just 20 years old and spent a quarter of a century turning Isole e Olena into one of Tuscany's gems, through careful vineyard development and modern, refined winemaking techniques. These efforts result in some of the most honest and compelling wines in all of central Italy. Easily one of the best Chianti Classico produced today. Allegrini Valpolicella 2009 89 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate Named after the region in Northeastern Italy where the vineyards are planted, this blend of 65% Corvina Veronese, 30% Rondinella and 5% Molinara is vinified in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh, bright flavors. Red cherries, cinnamon, flowers and dried herbs come together nicely in this medium-bodied red. A perfect pizza wine. Allegrini Palazzo della Torre Veronese 2008 90 pts. by Wine Spectator (Ranked #60 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2011! The only Italian wine featuring in the W.S. Top 100 list over 5 times!) This blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese is a smooth, full-bodied cru made in an innovative ripasso style. After the harvest, the grapes from the Palazzo della Torre vineyard follow two different paths: 70% of the grapes picked are vinified immediately, and the remaining 30% are left to dry until the end of December. The fresh juice obtained at harvest is blended with the juice for the dried grapes, initiating a second fermentation, and rendering a more highly concentrated and complex wine. A customer favorite! Allegrini Amarone 2007 94 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate Made from Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Oseleta grapes following a thousand-year old appassimento tradition of the Valpolicella region: After the grapes are hand-harvested, they are left to dry for three – four months in shallow racks, stored in a well-ventilated, state-of-the-art drying facility. The result is a super rich and concentrated wine. Amarone is an iconic wine, and is extremely important not just to the Valpolicella region, but to Italian winemaking on the whole. This is one of the finest Amarone wines produced today! A must try! See you here gang! THURSDAY FEBRUARY 2, 2012 ~ 6PM Paul Hobbs Tasting Cost: $20 "Paul Hobbs Wines Tasting Event" Hey gang! Please join Sky Cameron of Chambers & Chambers as he pours some current and library releases from world-renown winemaker Paul Hobbs. Pioneer. Trailblazer. Trendsetter. Prospector. These are all words used to describe Paul Hobbs. One of the first California winemakers to focus on single-vineyard wines, Paul Hobbs took the challenge one step further by dedicating himself to crafting unfiltered and unfined wines, fermented with native yeasts. His vision has resulted in exciting, structured wines that are rooted in classic old world techniques and, at the same time, are distinctly Californian in their expression. And, he continues to be a leader of Argentina’s ongoing winemaking revolution. Not bad for a farm boy from upstate New York. Paul Hobbs "Crossbarn" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2009 Rated 91 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate "A stunning bargain is the 2009 Chardonnay CrossBarn, which was aged in 75% stainless steel, was put through 100% malolactic, and 15% was barrel fermented in order to provide a subtle hint of spice. Made in a steely, Chablis-like style, it offers up full-bodied tropical fruit notes intermixed with hints of honeysuckle and crushed rocks. Paul Hobbs Winery Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2009 Rated 92 pts. by Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar "Complex, heady bouquet of pear nectar, melon, licorice and ginger, with a smoky mineral undertone. Spicy and precise on the palate, showing gently sweet orchard fruit flavors with complicating notes of anise, buttered toast and white pepper. This complex chardonnay finishes with strong bit and lingering smokiness." Paul Hobbs "Crossbarn" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2009 Rated 90 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate "Sweet, earthy, autumnal, herbal notes intermixed with plum sauce, black cherries, flowers and spice are found in this complex, evolved, round, generous Pinot Noir." Paul Hobbs Winery Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2009 Rated 93 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator-91 pts. "Complex and layered, with loamy earth, roasted coffee, spice, sage and cedar flavors that are well-distributed and focused. The flavor themes repeat on the finish. Paul Hobbs Winery Hyde Vineyard, Carneros-Napa Valley Pinot Noir 2008 Rated 94 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator-94 pts. "The brilliant 2008 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard is one of the finest Pinots I tasted from the 2008 vintage. Made from the Pommard and Calera clones, it exhibits a dark, saturated plum/ruby/purple-tinged color as well as an enormous bouquet of plums, soy, forest floor, black cherries and black currants, stunning, full-bodied, rich fruit and a supple, luscious finish. This decadent, full-throttle Pinot Noir can be consumed over the next decade or more."-Robert Parker Very Limited Paul Hobbs "Crossbarn" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 Rated 91 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Crossbarn is a gorgeous, fruit-driven wine bursting with dark red fruit, new leather, spices and licorice. Expressive aromatics are woven throughout in this beautifully delineated, entry-level Cabernet. The final blend includes 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Hobbs uses a touch of American oak for this Crossbarn label." Paul Hobbs Winery Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Rated 93 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator-92 pts. "Concentrated aromas of black currant, mocha and tobacco leaves reveal themselves as this deep crimson wine opens in the glass. A dense, viscous palate coats the mouth with boysenberry, red currant, clove and cassis." Paul Hobbs Winery Kick Ranch Vineyard Syrah 2007 Rated 94 pts. by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate "...plenty of ripe, rich black fruits as well as hints of charcoal, asphalt, black olive, and pepper. Full-bodied and dense, it should be nearly as good as the sensational 2006 vintage." Very Limited We also may have some great surprises, but you gotta come down to find out! See you here gang!
